PETALING JAYA - Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has teamed up with Mitsui Fudosan Co Ltd of Japan to develop an upscale factory outlet park at a cost of RM335 million at the KL International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang.

Phase 1 of the park, which will be developed over three phases, is expected to begin in the first quarter of next year and is expected to open its doors by end-2014.

The airport operator yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding with Mitsui Fudosan for the purpose.

Dubbed "Mitsui Outlet Park KLIA", the 50-acre factory outlet park will feature food and beverage and entertainment facilities as its complementary components based on three themed attractions: knowledge and attractions, prime time complex and world food expo.

The factory outlet park, the first in Southeast Asia for Mitsui, will boast a total lettable area of about 47,000 sq m upon completion.

More than 240 international designer brands will be invited based on their presence in existing Mitsui outlet parks in Japan and China.

Mitsui, a leading real estate developer in Japan, has 12 factory outlet parks in Japan and one in China.
